Joseph Edward (Jed) B. Alegado is currently a PhD Candidate in the Resource, Environment and Development Group at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University with support from the Australian Government Research Training Program (AGRTP). He finished his Masters in Development Studies Major in Agrarian, Food, and Environmental Studies (AFES) at the International Institute of Social Studies (ISS) part of Erasmus University Rotterdam in The Hague, Netherlands. He gained his A.B. Major in Communication Minor in Philosophy from the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines. He also has a Master in Public Management (MPM) degree from the Ateneo School of Government (ASoG), Philippines. Prior to joining Crawford, he was the Asia Pacific Communications Manager of #breakfreefromplastic, a global movement working to end plastic pollution through systemic changes where he has been instrumental in leading #breakfreefromplastic Asia Pacific’s communications work and in organizing capacity-building workshops on communications and campaigning for members in the region. Prior to this role, he has worked with Metrobank Foundation, the corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm of Metrobank, one of the Philippines’ largest banks and with the global non-profit Oxfam where he led campaigns such as GROW and the media and communications for humanitarian responses during typhoon Bopha (2012), supertyphoon Haiyan (2013) and typhoon Hagupit (2014). He also used to manage Project Agos, an online platform on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). He is also a part-time lecturer at the Ateneo de Manila University where he teaches post-graduate courses on leadership communications, negotiations and conflict management, disaster risk reduction-climate change adaptation and strategic communications and undergraduate core courses on politics, governance, citizenship; and economy, society, and sustainable development.
