Gamelan Sedulur Monco welcomes you to come together, share culture, and connect through music!
Gamelan Sedulur Monco is currently Canberra’s only Javanese gamelan group. Supported by the Australian Indonesian Youth Association (AIYA) and the ANU Indonesian Students Association (ANUISA). Gamelan Sedulur Monco welcomes all Canberrans to practice, hear, and learn about the cultural performance of gamelan.
The group’s name was chosen to highlight the background of its members, as it translates to ‘friends from around the world’. It represents how the gamelan group encourages people to come together, share culture, and connect through music.
In Java, the gamelan performs for a number of cultural events such as weddings, wayang kulit (puppet show) performances, cultural celebrations, and more. At Immersia 2024, we invite viewers to experience an immersive snippet of Java through the music of the gamelan.
