Building on the first ANU Southeast Asia Institute’s Limited Series––Southeast Asianists––this new series seeks to explore how to study the region. The SAGU series aims to grapple with the question of How to Study Southeast Asia, drawing from the experiences of both emerging and established scholars in designing, conducting, and writing research about the region. This SAGU series taps into the experiences of these scholars as they design, conduct, and write their research on Southeast Asia from the ground up. The "ground up" element here refers to empirical insights gained from fieldwork, ethnographic research, archival materials, and large-n surveys conducted with Southeast Asian citizens.
